Income Tax Return Filed but Refund Not Received?
Understand your ITR status, check the possible reason for the delay and take the correct action to resolve your Income Tax refund issue.

Log in to the Income Tax e-Filing Portal and go to:
e-File → Income Tax Returns → View Filed Returns
Select the correct Assessment Year and check the latest status of your Income Tax Return.
Successfully e-Verified
Your return has been verified but is still waiting to be processed by CPC.
Under Processing
The Income Tax Department is currently processing your return.
Processed with Refund Due
The return has been processed and a refund has been determined. Check your bank validation and refund status.
Refund Failed
The refund could not be credited. Bank details may need to be corrected or validated before submitting a refund reissue request.
What Should You Do?
- Confirm that your Income Tax Return has been successfully e-verified.
- Check whether your bank account is validated and nominated for refund.
- Confirm that the name linked with your PAN matches the name registered in your bank account.
- Check your registered email, SMS and Pending Actions for any notice or communication from the Income Tax Department.
- Review Form 26AS and AIS to confirm whether the relevant TDS credit is correctly reflected.
If Your Return Is Still Not Processed
If the return continues to show Successfully e-Verified or Under Processing even after a reasonable period, you may submit an online grievance.
Select:
Grievances → Submit Grievance → CPC-ITR → Processing → Others – Processing
Mention the Assessment Year, filing date and ITR acknowledgement number in the grievance description.
If the Refund Has Failed
Check and correct your bank-account details, IFSC, PAN linkage, account status and bank validation.
After validating the correct account, go to:
Services → Refund Reissue → Create Refund Reissue Request
Common Reasons for Refund Delay
- ITR e-verification is incomplete.
- Return processing is pending with CPC.
- Bank account is not validated or nominated.
- PAN and bank-account name do not match.
- TDS credit is not correctly reflected in Form 26AS or AIS.
- An outstanding tax demand is being adjusted.
- A notice or response is pending on the portal.
- There is a mismatch in the refund calculation.
